(Everly)– After a year of waiting due to red tape, the Northwest Iowa Chapter of Habitat for Humanity says it’s ready to begin its build in Everly.
A partner family for the project was selected last year and a lot was purchased from the city for a dollar. A groundbreaking was held, but qualifications to meet requirements of a grant held back the start of any construction. Now, the local chapter officials say they’ve been able to meet those requirements, clearing the way for construction to begin this spring.
Project Coordinator Richard Hildebrand is organizing teams that want to participate in the build, doing things such as framing, roofing, dry wall and so on. Teams are needed at various times from May through September. Each should have a team leader, an on-site safety person and a devotional leader. Teams can work one day or several days, with most of the work being done on weekends. Anyone interested should contact Hildebrand at (712) 330-2606 as soon as possible.
This will be the 11th house the local habitat affiliate has built in Clay and Dickinson counties.
In addition to manpower, the local chapter is also in need of funding for the project. The goal is to raise $20,000. The chapter will hold an auction in Everly tentatively set for April 30th. Additional details on that are still being worked out.
