(Spencer)– Construction of a new economic development spec building in Spencer is about to kick into high gear. Curt Strouth, CEO of the Iowa Lakes Development Corporation, says the project is on an amibitious timeframe…
“The building’s actually going to be delivered at the end of May, that’s kind of the estimated timeframe as far as when the building will be delivered. The city of Spencer has approved the building permit so we’re ready for, to start moving dirt and for construction. Beck Excavating is scheduled to start stripping the site and extending the building pad this week. Again, that’s all weather depending. They’re actually targeting the week of May 20th to start building the foundation, so weather permitting we’re here, we’re ready to move and the building permit like I said is approved, so it will be nice to start seeing dirt moving and the construction of that building going here shortly.”
Strouth says the project is a joint effort…
“The city of Spencer, Clay County Board of Supervisors, SMU, Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative, Corn Belt, along with the Future Fund of Iowa Lakes Corridor are partners in executing that project, so we’re looking forward to it.”
Strouth says having a building that’s ready to go for a prospective industry is important to have in the economic development tool box. He says as of right now there’s only one other spec building on the market in Iowa, in Perry.
