Construction Of New Okoboji Elementary School Making Good Progress

December 01, 2025

(Milford)– Construction of the new Okoboji Elementary School continues to take shape. Superintendent Will Dible tells KUOO news things remain on schedule…

“Our precasts are all still on schedule so our time of our actual project is still on schedule. And anybody that’s been kind of going by can see, especially that precast coming up, that’s the pre-formed concrete that will be around the gym, and as well as the steel framing that’s been kind of being set up around the outside of the classroom areas and such. So we definitely are seeing that improvement and it’s very exciting.”

Dible adds the project also remains on budget, with the school board starting to look at some alternates…

“We still have not taken our phase two of the high school out to bid so. The whole bond project was the two phases of the high school in addition to the elementary school, so those were the parts of our bond. So before we really act on too many alternates we do need to see where that phase two of the high school comes in and right now we’re scheduled to really send that out for bid in January or February, so we’ll have a better picture of it after that as well. But right now we are under budget and that’s a great thing to not only be able to state but share with our taxpayers and everything else.”

Dible says work on improvements and an expansion at Okoboji High School is also progressing…

“Phase one of the high school will be the science classrooms, our SES, as well as like our multi-purpose facility which is going to house our wrestling. That should all be good to go for next year. So when we start school next year those facilities should all be ready to be used. And so finishing up this summer and then phase two of the high school will basically start in the summer of next year and then finish up in the summer of 2027. The elementary is a two-year project which is scheduled to be finished in the summer of 2027.”

Dible says the excitement continues to mount as the construction on both projects moves along.
