Congressman Steve King Expresses Concern Over Syria

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The ongoing uprising in Syria and the possibility of chemical weapons coming into play is raising a lot of concern in the national and international communities. Some, like Congressman Steve King, say any response by the U.S. to such a thing needs to be carefully measured. And King says the fact we’re having to rely on intelligence reports to get any information as to what’s going on there is clouding things even more…(click here for comment.) “We know something about what’s going on there. The classified briefings that we’ve received haven’t added any knowledge to this. They’ve been what you already knew in the news. It’s an unknown quantity. The President will make the decision on what to do. But the Arab uprisings haven’t turned out very well for U.S. interests in each of these cases. And sometimes we have helped people that turned out to be our enemies. I’m very concerned about that. Asad is the devil we know. We don’t know who would emerge in power in Syria if there’s going to be a transfer in power that takes place there. And I’d like to know more about what’s expected there before I would make a suggestion or recommendation on whether United States should intervene.”

King made his comments during a stop last Friday at the KUOO studios.
