Collision With Light Pole Results In Minor Injury

November 22, 2014

(Worthington, Mn.)—One person sustained minor injuries early this (Thurs.) morning after a vehicle collided with a pole on an ice-covered overpass on Interstate 90 at Worthington.

The Minnesota State Patrol says a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Mimi Sayavong of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa was eastbound and was going over the Highway 60 overpass. Troopers say Sayavong lost control on the icy road and collided with the pole, knocking it down. A second eastbound vehicle driven by 52-year-old Jon McDermott of New Market, Minnesota then came upon the scene and collided with the downed pole.

No injuries were reported to either driver. A passenger in Sayavong’s vehicle, 15-year-old Sabreena Vongnalath of Sergeant Bluff was taken to Sanford Hospital in Worthington for treatment of a minor injury.

Moderate damage was reported to a 2007 Honda Civic driven by Sayavong; minor damage was reported to a 2009 Subaru McDermott was driving.

The collision took place shortly after 12:30 a.m.

The Minnesota State Patrol was assisted by the Nobles County Sheriff’s Office.
