(Spencer)—A two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon at the North “Y”, or the intersection of Highways 18 and 71, sent two people to the hospital.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 94-year-old Miriam Bergen of Spencer had been eastbound on Highway 18 and had stopped at the intersection when she pulled into the path of a northbound vehicle driven by 38-year-old Kristin Johnson of Spencer. Bergen’s vehicle came to rest in the center median; Johnson’s wound up in the east ditch.
Deputies say Bergen sustaine life threatening injuries; minor injuries were reported to Johnson. Both were taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital.
$10,000 in damage was estimated to a 2000 Mercury driven by Bergen and to a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country van Johnson was driving.
The collision took place shortly after 2:00 p.m. Authorities say it remains under investigation.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Spencer Police Department, Spencer Fire and Rescue, Fostoria Fire and Rescue and Spencer Hospital paramedics.
