Collision Of Semi And S-U-V Sends Both Drivers To The Hospital

(Sioux Rapids)– A two-vehicle collision Saturday morning on Highway 71 near Sioux Rapids sent both drivers to the hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol says 19-year-old Joseph Dax of Storm Lake was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe northbound when he crossed the center line and collided with a southbound Freightliner semi driven by 27-year-old Hunter Coatney of Pierre City, Missouri.

Dax was taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital; Coatney was transported to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, also by ambulance.

The collision took place a little before 6:00 am Saturday.

The Buena Vista and Clay County Sheriff’s Offices and the Sioux Rapids Fire Department assisted on the scene.
