(Spirit Lake)– One person was taken to the hospital following a collision Tuesday in the 1600 mile of Highway 86. The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 64-year-old Walter Frank of Milford was driving a Pontiac southbound when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided with the front driver’s side tire of a semi tractor/trailer driven by 50-year-old Samuel Deppa of Ottawa, Kansas. The vehicle driven by Frank came to rest on the west side of the highway; the semi left road and went into a field.
Frank was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with incapacitating injuries. Deppa wasn’t hurt.
The Spirit Lake, Milford and Arnolds Park Police Departments, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DNR, Spirit Lake First Responders, and the Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance all assisted on the scene.
Authorities say a call had been made for extrication but wound up being cancelled.
The collision took place shortly before 1:00 pm.
