(Spirit Lake)– Several people were injured in a collision this (Wed.) afternoon at the intersection of Highways 9 and 71 in Spirit Lake, also known as “the Wal-Mart corner”.
A preliminary report by Spirit Lake police says a pickup that was eastbound went through the intersection and collided with a van that had been northbound on Highway 71 and was attempting to pull onto Highway 9. That vehicle then clipped off a stop sign that fell onto a motorcyclist who had stopped at the intersection. The pickup continued through the intersection, coming to rest on its top in the eastbound lane of the highway on the east side of the intersection (see photo).
One person in the pickup and two in the van were reportedly injured, but it wasn’t immediately clear how many were transported to the hospital. The motorcyclist was treated on the scene and released.
Other details, including the names of those involved, weren’t available yet as of late this (Wed.) afternoon as authorities were still investigating and completing paperwork.
The crash took place shortly before 3:00 p.m.
