(Milford)– KUOO news received several reports of what’s known as “cold air funnels” in the area earlier this (Tues.) afternoon. Most of the reports came from Milford.
According to the National Weather Service, the phenomena occurs beneath showers or weak thunderstorms when the air aloft is especially cold. The sun heats up the lower levels of the atmosphere causing some uplift to occur.
Cold air funnels rarely touch down.
Conditions favorable for the formation of cold air funnels were present in the area earlier this (Tues.) afternoon. No actual touch downs were reported with the activity.
