Clay, Dickinson Counties Teaming Up For Women In Nature Day Activities

December 16, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– A Winter Women in Nature Day is coming up Saturday, January 11th at Oneota Park in Spencer. Amy Heibult (high-bult) is with the Dickinson County Nature Center, which is coordinating the event in conjunction with Clay county. She says they’ll have a variety of activities going on that day from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm…

“The first session is either maple syruping or paint and sip. Women can learn how maple syrup is made or kind of paint some winter scenery while enjoying some beverages. I will say that women have to be 21 years or older to try some of the alcoholic beverages for that session. The second session is shelter building or nature’s art box, so it’s also kind of nice having those skills of protecting yourself from the elements so you’ll learn how to do that. Or you can choose to collect your own natural materials to make crafts. There will be a few make and take crafts for that Nature’s Art Box session. Lunch is included. Each participant will get a stainless steel water bottle with that. And then the third session to choose from is fishing, ice fishing, or a snowshoe walk and animal tracking adventure. So you can either learn how to fish through the ice at Scharnberg Park or you can kind of adventure out and see what kind of animals are out and about and track some signs that they leave behind.”

The cost is $25.00 per person and pre-registration is required. You can do that at dickinsoncountynaturecenter.com. The deadline to sign up is 5:00 pm January 8th.
