Clay County Tourism Publishes First Visitor’s Guide

July 10, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– Clay County Tourism is out with its first ever “Experience Clay County Visitor’s Guide”. Olivia Baxter, Marketing and Tourism Director, tells KUOO news how they came up with the idea to publish a guide…

“So I just started at the end of August last year and this is a new position for the chamber as well, so with that we wanted to create something that would be new for the county. So we went kind of with more of a modern look and didn’t want it to be just a bunch of lists. We wanted something interesting for readers.”

Baxter says the 36-page guide will serve as a valuable resource for tourists and local residents…

“I wanted it to be an interactive way to learn about the county for both visitors and residents, and then it has a lot of links to our website for listings of things…all of the hotels and restaurants. We just really kind of want to show off what our county actually looks like and really bring some interest and get people here.”

She adds the guide reflects collective efforts of communities in Clay county as well as businesses and organizations…

“I think it gives a good overview of each community in Clay county. We did a little highlight on each of those. It kind of gives a background on some statistics and some fun things to do, and then it also has the contact information if they need more information from me.”

Baxter says the guides will be published every other year, with the next one coming out in 2025. She adds they’ll begin distributing the guides soon to various businesses. They’re also available at the Clay County Tourism Office or by emailing tourism@spenceriowachamber.org.
