Clay County Tourism Awarded Grant

February 12, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– Clay County Tourism has been awarded an Iowa Tourism Grant through the Iowa Economic Development Authority. Olivia Baxter, Tourism Coordinator for Clay county, says they’re thrilled to receive it…

“This is a grant that comes from the state tourism office. It’s offered every year and you’re eligible to apply for up to $10,000. It’s specifically tourism funding and so it’s to try to bring people from in and around Iowa to the state and heighten Iowa’s reputation for being a destination.”

Baxter says the funds will go specifically toward three key components of their “Capture Clay County” project…

“Those three things, the photography, the influencer and the website, are what’s going to be directly funded by this grant, however it’s kind of a bigger picture. We actually received a grant in 2023 as well for the 2024 year and with that we worked with F8 to produce some videos for both the county and Spencer to promote the area, so this is just kind of adding onto that. We’re really hoping to drive traffic to the area from people kind of in the surrounding states and then also targeting like day trippers to come here and visit us.”

Baxter says the Capture Clay County project is scheduled to launch very soon with marketing efforts rolling out throughout the year, to be completed by 2026. She adds they are currently accepting content and photos for the next Clay County Visitor Guide. Submissions can be made by contacting Baxter at the Clay County Tourism Office or the Spencer Chamber of Commerce.
