Clay County To Participate In Prescription Drug Collection Project

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Clay county residents will have a special opportunity to properly dispose of expired, unwanted or unused prescription drugs.

Sheriff Randy Krukow says residents can drop them off this Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the lobbies of either the Clay County Sheriff’s Office or the Spencer Police Department.

The project is a joint effort between the two agencies and Positively Spencer Youth.

While they’re doing the special collection this Saturday, Krukow says Clay county residents can drop off expired, unwanted or unused prescription drugs at those locations anytime during regular office hours Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

Krukow says the Clay County Sheriff’s Office has joined the American Medicine Chest Challenge and is now included in its national directory of permanent prescription drug collection boxes. Currently the directory includes collection sites in 35 states. It includes an interactive map of each state’s permanent collection sites.

The American Medicine Chest Challenge is a not-for-profit community based public health initiative with over 700 community and law enforcement partnerships in 48 states. It’s designed to raise awareness about the dangers of prescription drug abuse and provide safe disposal options of unused, unwanted and expired medicine.
