(Spencer)– If you’re going to be traveling either tonight (Friday) or tomorrow (Saturday) night in Clay county and you’re not wearing a seatbelt or if you’re driving erratically, you can expect to get pulled over.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office will be among the law enforcement agencies participating in a special enforcement project dubbed “Operation Night Owl”. Chief Deputy Brad Hawley says deputies will concentrate their efforts on secondary blacktops and gravel roads between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m.
Hawley says Clay county motorists average 92 percent compliance with the state’s seatbelt requirements, compared to a statewide average of 93 percent. He says the goal is to increase the percentage of seatbelt users in Clay ounty through education and the issuance of traffic citations.
Another goal, he says, is to lower the number of serious injury and fatality crashes.
