Clay County Semi Tractor-Trailer Accident Results In Minor Injuries

August 23, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Peterson)– Minor injuries were reported Thursday when a semi tractor-trailer flipped onto its side at the intersection of Highway 10 and County Road M27 near Peterson.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says Timothy Allen of Whittemore was driving a 1988 International semi tractor pulling a grain trailer southbound when the brakes failed while the rig was coming down a hill. Deputies say Allen then took evasive action and tried to turn onto Highway 10, causing the semi tractor-trailer to flip onto its side.

Minor injuries were reported to Allen, who declined immediate treatment.

The semi tractor-trailer sustained an estimated $75,000 in damage and was reported as a total loss.

Allen was cited for failure to maintain control.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by Peterson Fire and Ambulance, the Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Department of Transportation.

The crash took place a little after 11:30 am.
