Clay County Fairgoers Will Notice Some Facility Improvements

August 29, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– Those attending this year’s Clay County Fair Powered by SMU will likely notice some improvements that have been made to some of the buildings. Fair CEO Jerome Hertel says some are more obvious than others…

“Yeah. You know, we’re always trying to make improvements to the grounds. Some of the things you don’t see like putting new roofs on the building, the 4-H Building got a new roof. The 4-H kids have been busy remodeling the inside of the 4-H Building and so be sure to go and check out those exhibits in those exhibit areas. We’re putting a new deck on The Stables over there, The Stables Building. If you drive through the grounds you’ll probably notice that the Cattlemen’s Association did a whole remodel of The Branding Iron, so that’s almost a brand new building over there on the grounds. And then yeah, a lot of different things as far as the grandstand stage, putting a new deck on the grandstand stage giving it a new paint job. We’ve installed some sidewalks, we’re doing some portable lighting options on the grounds just to make it lighter and safer for people in the evening hours.”

Hertel says those lights will be solar powered and were donated by a company for use during the fair.

The Clay County Fair kicks off a week from this Saturday, September 7th, and runs through September 15th.
