Clay County Fair Queen Candidates Sought (1)

(Spencer)– The search is on for candidates for this year’s Clay County Fair Queen competition.

Females between 16 and 21 years-old by August 11th are eligible to apply. Candidates must never have been married, must have no children, cannot be a professional model, cannot represent any other organization and must reside in Clay county or an adjoining county if the majority of her activities are in Clay county. Applicants must also be a member of atleast one service organization or church group.

The Clay County Fair Queen will represent the Clay County Fair in the Flagfest Parade in June, the Iowa State Fair Queen contest, selected celebrations throughout the summer, and the Clay County Fair in September. The Queen also receives many valuable prizes and awards.

Applications are available from school counselor offices, the fair office, or at www.claycountyfair.com. A one-page typed letter may also be submitted with the candidate’s name, parent’s names, address, email address, a recent photo and date of birth. Contestants should also describe themselves, activities they are involved in and their reason for wanting to become Clay County Fair Queen. The letter must submitted to the Clay County Fair Queen Contest, Box 527, Spencer, Iowa…51301…on or before March 7th. A committee will then select 14 finalists who will compete for the title Sunday, April 3rd at the Clay County Regional Events Center in Spencer. Finalists will be notified by March 11th.

Candidates will be judged on personality, attitude, awareness, leadership and citizenship, contribution to the community, overall appearance, charm, poise and self expression.
