Clay County Fair Announces New Midway Attractions

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– It may not be until September, but officials with the Clay County Fair are already putting finishing touches on the plans for this year’s event.

Speaking Wednesday at a Media Day event, Phil Hurst, Secretary/Manager of the fair, mentioned some new thrill rides that will be on the midway this year. They include one that resembles the old “Wild Mouse” ride at Arnolds Park. Hurst says “The Crazy Mouse” is a huge ride that comes in on several trucks and requires several cranes to set it up. Due to its size, he says they’ll be doing a little rearranging of some food concessions to make room.

“The Himalayan”, another thrill ride, will also be featured.

Hurst says the general public will be able to get a sneak peak at the midway attractions for a special price the Friday evening before the fair starts from 6:00 p.m. until midnight. He says “A Taste of The Clay County Fair” will also be going that evening in the Regional Events Center, featuring food vendors at this year’s fair.

Grandstand entertainment includes Bill Engvall, Gaither Vocal Band, New Odyssey, Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Museum Hall of Fame Show; World of Outlaws, IMCA races, Heart, free style motorcycle races, outlaw truck and tractor pulls and Trace Adkins and Heidi Newfield.

That’s in addition to the various acts at the free entertainment areas and other attractions, including the Elephant Encounter, Jack Hannah’s Wild Animals and “Rocket The Robot”, to name a few.
