Clay County Collision Injures Graettinger Man

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A two-vehicle collision late Friday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 18 and Clay County Road M-50 sent one person to the hospital.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 15-year-old Benjamin Haugen of Cottage Grove, Minnesota was driving a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country mini-van on an instruction permit under the supervision of his mother. Deputies say Haugen had stopped in the intersection and was waiting to turn south onto County Road M-50. Authorities say 28-year-old Trenton Swedin of Graettinger was driving a 1991 Buick Regal westbound on Highway 18 when he collided with the rear of the vehicle Haugen was driving.

Swedin was taken to Spencer Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Swedin was cited for following too close and operating with out registration.

The Buick driven by Swedin was totaled; functional damage was reported to the mini-van driven by Haugen.
The collision took place around 4:20 p.m.
