Clay Co Traffic Stop Results In Drug Arrests

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A traffic stop early this (Wednesday) morning in Clay county resulted in drug charges against two people.

The Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was attempting to stop a vehicle for speeding in the 3000 block of Highway 18 when he observed a passenger throw a bag out of the vehicle.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the deputy retrieved the bag and discovered it had what’s alleged to be marijuana inside it.

The passenger, 19-year-old Kurt Bahrke of Correctionville, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana…second offense; and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bahrke was unable to post bond and was booked into jail.

A subsequent search of the vehicle by the Clay County Sheriff’s K-9 Max turned up what’s alleged to be additional drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

At that point the driver, 18-year-old John Calandros, Jr. of Quimby was also arrested. He was charged with possession of marijuana…first offense; possession of drug paraphernalia; no insurance and speed. Calandros was freed after posting bond.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Spencer Police Department.
