Clay Co. Sheriff Recognizes 911 Dispatchers For Hard Work During Dec. 23-24 Blizzard

February 07, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– Four Clay County 911 dispatchers were recognized at Monday’s Spencer City Council meeting. Melanie Peterson, Andrea Ring, Ree Rasmussen and Bonnie Norgard were honored for their efforts during the blizzard December 23rd and 24th. Clay County Sheriff Chris Raveling says the county’s 911 dispatch center received more than 120 calls of service over the two days…

“76 of those calls were because of the snow event. The Communications Center dispatched first responders to seven separate accidents, two of which were jackknifed semis blocking a U.S. highway, and they also dispatched Petersen Crew and Fire to a residence in the county where a female subject had passed away. These dispatchers maintained their composure while dealing with multiple irate callers complaining of road conditions and response times for first responders.”

Raveling says for all of 2022, the Clay County Communications Center received more than 15,000 calls for service.
