Clay Becomes 4th Northwest Iowa County To Implement Ban On Burning

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Clay county has become the fourth county in northwest Iowa to ban open burning due to the extremely hot, dry conditions.

The ban in Clay county went into affect at 8:00 a.m. this (Thursday 7/19) morning and will continue until further notice.

The ban was issued by the State Fire Marshal’s Office at the request of the county’s Fire Chiefs.

Officials say conditions are such in many area of northwest Iowa that all it would take to get a major grassfire going is a simple spark.

A burn ban has not yet been implement in Dickinson county. But Emergency Manager Coordinator Mike Ehret says that could change, adding they’re keeping a close eye on things for now, atleast.

In addition to Clay, burn bans are in effect in several other northwest Iowa counties, including Lyon, Plymouth and Pocahontas.
