“CLAMP” Program In Need Of Volunteers

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– A program that utilizes volunteers to monitor water quality of the Iowa Great Lakes could use your help again this season.

Jane Shuttleworth of Lakeside Laboratory coordinates the Cooperative Lakes Area Monitoring Project, or CLAMP. She says volunteers in the program collect water samples from the lakes that are then taken to Lakeside Lab for testing.

Shuttleworth says training and refresher workshops for those interested will be held Saturday, May 23rd at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.; Sunday, May 24th at 1:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 30th at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at Lakeside Lab on the west side of West Lake Okoboji.

In addition, Shuttleworth says the May 30th session will include training for those interested in helping monitor for aquatic invasive species this summer at boat ramps throughout the Iowa Great Lakes.

Those interested in either the CLAMP and/or invasive species program(s) should pre-register by contacting Shuttleworth at 337-3669, extension seven, or via e-mail at jane-shuttleworth@iowa.edu.

The CLAMP program is sponsored by Friends of Lakeside Lab and coordinated by Iowa Lakeside Laboratory in partnership with the University of Iowa Hygienic Laboratory and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

CLAMP is supported through contributions from the Friends’ annual fundraiser to be held this year June 21st aboard the Queen Two.
