(Spencer)– The Mayor of Spencer issued an update this (Sun.) on the catastrophic flooding that continues in that city. In a press release, Mayor Steve Bomgaars thanks city, county and state emergency teams for their efforts in protecting citizens and vital resources.
Bomgaars says the city’s waste water treatment plant remains inoperable and citizens should NOT flush toilets or use water. That includes those living in areas not under water. He says crews are continuing to assess the situation and that a notification will be given once it’s safe to once again use the system. Bomgaars adds the water standing in the streets is NOT clean and could be contaminated.
Travel within Spencer is not advised and those who can do so are being told to continue sheltering in place. Those who DO need to leave their home should take their medications in their bottles.
Food essentials may be picked up at donations dropped off at Foundation Church located at 1410 West 18th Street.
Open gas stations for fuel include North Casey’s, Fast Stop By Spencer Ag & Brew at the North Y.
Power is also still off in part of Spencer. The press release says crews are continuing to work to restore it as soon as possible.
City officials in Spencer also say the tap water IS SAFE to drink, and that roads in and out of Spencer remain closed except to emergency personnel.
