City Officials In Spencer Complete Preparations For Clay County Fair

September 05, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– City officials in Spencer say final preparations have been made for this year’s Clay County Fair, which starts Saturday. Public Works Director Mark White says those traveling the streets around the perimeter of the fairgrounds need to use some extra caution…

“I’d like to remind everybody to be careful on West 18th Street. We’ve lowered the speed limit to 20 mph in the fair area. There’s also a new traffic light system that you’ll see there. Those are owned by Clay county. We’re using an overhead temporary light this time to help with the pedestrian and the golf cart traffic across 18th Street. We also cleaned sewers in the area and no parking signs. I won’t go through the whole list. It’s a pretty polished operation at this point.”

White says a large pile of flood debris on a parking lot on the north side of the Clay County Fairgrounds has long since been removed. He says the lot was recently re-paved and that the land immediately surrounding that location has had the topsoil removed and replaced to eliminate any residual debris.
