(Estherville)– Officials in Estherville say they’re pleased with how RAGBRAI went in that community. City Administrator Penny Clayton expressed her gratitude to everyone that made it possible…
“All of the volunteers, all of the city employees, all of the council members. Every person in our community, whether they were on a volunteer committee or they just helped out or they helped out with planning before the event had a part in this, even just being downtown and talking to people and saying hi. Those people also had a valuable impact on the representation of our community and I am very proud of the way we showed up. Certainly there were things we could have tweaked and done differently but all in all, it was a great day.”
From a law enforcement perspective, Police Chief Brent Shatto says things went smoothly on that end as well in the city. He says they were able to test out a new mobile command center consisting of a camper that’s been converted to a portable communications center…
“It was more about having it prepared and ready to go and operational in the event of a real emergency.”
Shatto says his department did have assistance from a deputy from the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office and the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, otherwise he says Estherville police were able to utilize their personnel.
Estherville was the second overnight stop on this year’s RAGBRAI route.
