City Official: Little Sioux River At Spencer Is Still Long Way Off From Causing Infrastructure Concerns

May 07, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– Other than affecting Leach Park, flooding so far on the Little Sioux River at Spencer hasn’t been causing any major issues for the city. Public Works Director Mark White says the level would need to go much higher before they would see any impacts to infrastructure…

“Our operations start to change at 16 feet, that’s when things really kind of start to change in our world and we’re well below that. So I believe we’re in good shape, shouldn’t be any concerns. You can monitor the river level with the weather service, NOAA, go to rivers and lakes. There’s also a nice interactive map with the Iowa Flood Information Center, basically it’s the same information we’re looking at so it’s available to the public.”

Flood warnings remain in effect until further notice along pretty much the entire length of the river.
