City Of Spencer Hosting Public Informational Meeting With Head Of Iowa Flood Center

October 22, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– The city of Spencer next week will hold a public informational meeting looking back on the June flood. Mayor Steve Bomgaars says one of the keynote speakers will be Dr. Larry Weber, a hydrologist with the University of Iowa who also heads up the Iowa Flood Center. Bomgaars says it stems from conversations he and Interim City Manager Kevin Robinson have had with Dr. Weber…

“The conversations we had with he and his team have been very revealing and I think when we found out that they were going to be up in this area on Tuesday, October 29th, we asked them if they would be available for the public to hear what they have to say about not only the flood, but also warning systems and river gauges and things like that. It was just eye-opening to hear what Dr. Weber and some of his staff had to say.”

The meeting is schedule for 6:00 pm Tuesday, October 29th at the Clay County Regional Events Center in Spencer.

Bomgaars says they’re hoping to also have some input from Iowa Homeland Security and the National Weather Service. He says there will also be time a question-and-answer session for the general public.
