City Of Okoboji Reaching A Major Milestone

July 20, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Okoboji)– The city of Okoboji will reach a big milestone later this month, as it observes 100 years as being incorporated. Mayor Mary VanderWoude recently signed a proclamation to commemorate the occasion…

“Whereas the city of Okoboji was designated a city on July 28th, 1922, it is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Whereas in Okoboji’s first 100 years, it has evolved from a modest fishing village into Iowa’s number one vacation destination; whereas for many families across generations, Okoboji is a special place for memories, excitement and fun take place; and whereas Okoboji combines small town charm, friendliness with its many unique resorts, our lakes and tourism entities and Okoboji’s quality of life has made the community a very desirable place to reside, to do business, and visit; whereas Okoboji also takes pride in its commitment toward the preservation and protection of our natural resources through low impact development principles, and pledges toward water quality initiatives. Now, therefore I, Mary VanderWoude, Mayor of the City of Okoboji, I proudly announce and proclaim that we all take pride in all that Okoboji has accomplished in its first century, and are pleased to honor and celebrate the legacy of Okoboji while beginning the next 100 years.”

The proclamation goes on to declare July 28th as Okoboji Centennial Day.
