(Okoboji)– The city of Okoboji is looking at some possible changes to an ordinance regulating vicious dogs. The council discussed some possible revisions after hearing from Police Chief Jason Peterson who reported on at least one incident recently involving a dog attacking another dog and some chickens. City Administrator Michael Meyers outlines some of the changes being considered…
“Right now our dangerous dog ordinance states that if the dog attacks a human and injures it, then it can be considered a dangerous dog in our community. However some of the discussion that took place tonight was not only having that in there but also including if a dog escapes a property, for example, and attacks another domesticated animal on their property two or more times, then we consider them a dangerous dog in that instance or if the dog has been used for dog fighting in the past or is trained for dog fighting or if it’s been deemed a dangerous dog in another community in Dickinson county. So just looking to kind of expand upon our current ordinance to help alleviate the situations that may arise with that sort of activity.”
The council scheduled a public hearing on the proposed changes for its October 11th meeting.
