City Of Milford Unveiling New Police Station & Public Works Building

September 25, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Milford)– The public will have an opportunity this (Wed.) evening to get a firsthand look at some new city facilities in Milford. Mayor Steve Anderson says the public is invited to a couple of open houses that will be going on. One will be at the new Police Station at 1905 Okoboji Avenue…

“We now have a better office layout for everybody. We’ve got security at the front door, we’ve got an area for growth for future officers. Part of putting the Police Department there was to get the public, so people can see them, right on the highway. It’s a very visible spot for people to see where the Police Department is, so that’s help out. People will be able to go in there, get a tour, see what’s in there. We’ve got some new officers. Some people may not have met the Police Chief, so some of the officers will be there and be able to introduce those guys as well, so.”

Anderson says the other open house will be at the city’s new Public Works facility at 1706 M Avenue…

“That building is putting both the Public Works and the Parks Department under one roof. There’s some separate areas for them. But if you’ve been in the old shop, the walls were rusted out, there was very little insulation in there. The one thing that I always point out to the public is that during the winter they had to put a space heater right next to the toilet to keep it from freezing because that’s the type of building they were in. Better facilities, they’ve got some meeting space in there so if they need to have meetings they don’t have to run all the way up to city hall. They can do that down at their building. It should be a good facility. It will last us for 50 to 70 years.”

This (Wed.) evening’s open houses will be going on from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at each location.
