City Of Milford, IGL Sanitary District To Smoke Test Sewers

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– The Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary Sewer District and the city of Milford will be smoke testing and inspecting the sewer system in the area of 6th Street and “J” Avenue in Milford in the early to mid-afternoon hours on Thursday, Dec. 13th.

Residents within a three-block area of that intersection are being told to make sure they have put atleast a half gallon of water in all drains in the house, including sinks, showers, bathtubs and floor drains this (Wed. 12/12) evening.

Officials say non-toxic smoke will be pumped into the sewer system to detect any leaks. They say the smoke should not back up into homes as long as there is water in drains and sewer cleanouts are tightly sealed.
