City Of Estherville Reminding Residents Of Snow Removal Ordinance

November 18, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– Another area city is reminding residents of its snow removal ordinance.

Greg Van Langen, Code Enforcement Officer with the city of Estherville, says snow from private property cannot be pushed onto streets, sidewalks and other public rights-of-way in that city. The only exceptions are in the Central Business District due to limited space on private property and then ONLY prior to snow removal operations and the sidewalk and driveway area abutting the right of way.

Van Langen says snow must be removed from the full width of all public sidewalks and that city staff will make random inspections 24 hours after any measurable snowfall ends. He says if the abutting property owner fails to remove the snow, the city will do it for them and assess the costs against the property.

Van Langen adds property owners must provide a place to deposit their snow on private property and if there is no room they should have it hauled away.
