City Of Estherville Moving Ahead With REAP Grant App. For Phillips Pavilion Project

August 06, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– The Estherville City Council Monday evening voted to move ahead with a $100,000 REAP Grant application for the Phillips Pavilion project. If awarded, the funding would go toward the renovation of the former bathhouse where the city pool used to be. City Administrator Penny Clayton says plans call for the building to be converted into an indoor/outdoor shelter that could be held for various community gatherings. Restroom and shower facilities would be included in the climate controlled building along with a pergola and kitchenette…

The project has a total estimated cost of $391,000. The city along with Excel Estherville would kick in roughly an additional $195,000. Clayton says the city would then do some fundraising and apply for additional grants to make up the difference.

Clayton says having a facility like that in Estherville would get a lot of use. Mayor Adam Edwards expressed some skepticism, however…

Edwards agreed, however, it would be a good use of the former bathhouse, adding he would be in favor of moving ahead with the grant application. The vote to do that was unanimous.
