(Estherville)– The city of Estherville has now closed its tree dump indefinitely. City officials made the announcement early this (Tues.) afternoon. It’s effective immediately.
As we reported previously the tree dump has seen a number of fires in recent days, and city officials say they continue to re-kindle.
City Administrator Penny Clayton told the City Council there’s a hot spot in the tree dump. She says there’s been a heavy volume of leaves being brought to the site and that changing wind conditions blow some of those leaves into the hot areas, reigniting them.
Clayton says city staff is looking at several possible options for the tree dump and that they hope to make a recommendation to the city council relatively soon so something can be implemented before spring.
