(Arnolds Park)– The city of Arnolds Park is looking into the possibility of requiring city-issued permits on golf carts being operated in city limits. Police Chief Al Krueger says they’re being parked where they aren’t supposed to be and he says the city has been getting other complaints about them as well…
“Our biggest complaint is kids riding the golf carts and parking. And they’re parking in no parking zones and there’s no way for us as a city to track those golf carts to issue citations. And like I said the kids, younger age, are driving the golf carts. You have to be 16 years of age to operate a golf cart with a valid driver’s license.”
Krueger is pleading for cooperation from golf cart operators…
“Until we have this permit system in place we would like every person operating a golf cart within the city limits of Arnolds Park to drive safely and park legally within the city streets and within the parking zones of the city of Arnolds Park.”
Krueger says any permitting system that’s approved likely won’t go into effect until some time next year…
“The council will look at it probably the next coming months and the permit system will probably take affect in 2023 for that year and it’s to be determined if it will be a yearly permit system or a bi-yearly permit system. That will be up to the council. But there will be a permit system hopefully in place next year.”
During a special session Wednesday, the council directed Krueger to bring some additional information to the council for consideration at their next regular meeting in August.
City officials say most of the golf carts are coming from campgrounds and RV parks.
