(Undated)– The November 8th city elections in Dickinson county will feature a race for Mayor in one city. Meanwhile, in another, a write-in campaign will have to decide who will become the next Mayor. Four cities will have races for city council positions. Two cities will have special measures on the ballot.
One of the more interesting races will be in Okoboji, where incumbent Mary Vanderwoude is being challenged for her Mayoral seat by Leo “Butch” Parks. Meanwhile in Orleans, the next mayor will have to be decided by a write-in campaign, as no one filed and incumbent Carlton Mitchell isn’t running again.
There are races for city council seats in Milford, Okoboji, Terril and Wahpeton. In Milford, incumbents Rick Kilts and Todd Schillinger face a challenge from Don Olsen. In Okoboji, incumbents Jim Delperdang and Jim Hentges are being challenged by Will Kretsinger. In Terril, six people are running for three seats on the city council. Incumbents Julie Thiesen and Darrell Woods, Jr. are joined on the ballot by Brian Brawner, Scot Matthews, Todd Nissen and Matt Van Kleek. And in Wahpeton, Incumbents Phillip Johnson and Bradley Jones face a challenge from Norman Pixler.
There are no contested races for either Mayor or city council in Arnolds Park, Lake Park, Spirit Lake, Superior and West Okoboji.
In Spirit Lake, voters will decide the fate of a $1,745,000 bond issue to build a new city hall; and in Milford, voters will decide whether or not a 7 percent Hotel/Motel tax should be implemented in the city.
