Cities Increase Allocations Toward Trail Project

November 22, 2014

(Orleans)—The cities of Spirit Lake and Orleans have agreed to increase their share of funding for a recreational trail being proposed in conjunction with the reconstruction of Pioneer Beach Road on the northeast side of East Lake Okoboji.

City councils in both towns voted earlier this week to increase their shares of the funding to $50,000 each, with the Dickinson County Trails Board contributing another $50,000, for a total of $150,000. That money will be put toward a matching grant the board is applying for, which if awarded, would result in outside funding of nearly $350,000.

Previous efforts at landing a grant for the project were unsuccessful. Officials with the Trails Board are hopeful the added local contributions will better their chances this time around.
