(Spencer)– Charges have been filed against an Estherville man in connection with a hit-and-run that took place around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Clay county.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Michael Matthews of Estherville was driving a pickup pulling a stock trailer northbound in the 3900 mile of Highway 71 when he allegedly failed to stop for a Schwan’s truck that was slowing to make a left hand turn. Deputies say Mathews collided with the truck and fled the scene.
Deputies located Mathews’ pickup and trailer a short time later parked at a rural farm place in Clay county. Matthews was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failure to stop in a safe and assured distance. He was released from jail after posting bond.
