Changes Planned For 2nd Phase Of Reconstruction Of Hwy 71 Through Lakes Corridor This Fall

July 13, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Arnolds Park)– Representatives of the Iowa Department of Transportation briefed the Arnolds Park City Council Wednesday evening on some changes being made to the second phase of the reconstruction of Highway 71 through the lakes corridor. Dakun Schultz, a transportation planner with the D.O.T’s regional office in Sioux City, says instead of more intersection work, this fall’s work will consist more of paving longer segments through Arnolds Park…

Schultz says the changes for the second phase through Okoboji are pretty minimal…

Schultz adds the work on the causeway bridge will continue as planned this fall, with the causeway shutting down to all through traffic, except for emergency vehicles, for a four week period beginning September 18th.

He adds the D.O.T remains committed to working with the cities of Arnolds Park and Okoboji and businesses that will be affected…

The Iowa Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce will hold an informational meeting to kick off the second phase of the Highway 71 project at 5:00 pm August 15th. The site of the session hasn’t been announced yet. Officials say it will be similar to a kick off event the chamber held prior to work getting underway on the first phase this past spring.
