(Cherokee)– A Cherokee County man will have a change of venue for his first-degree murder trial. Luis Contrerras-Deciga pled not guilty in January to the first-degree murder charge in the death of his four-month-old son while waiving his right to a speedy trial.
The infant was found unresponsive while under the care of the 24-year-old father in May 2024 and was later declared brain dead after four days in the hospital. An autopsy ruled the death a homicide caused by head injuries.
The trial will be moved out of Cherokee County after the approved request with Contrerras-Deciga’s next hearing being held virtually on March 14th.
