(Spencer)– Two people sustained minor injuries Friday in a four-vehicle chain reaction collision on Highway 71 near Fostoria.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 21-year-old Brent Harris of Lake Park was driving a 2003 Pontiac northbound when he failed to see a vehicle in front of him that was slowing. Harris collided with the rear bumper of a 2003 Ford Taurus driven by 83-year-old Jeanette Raveling of Spirit Lake. The impact pushed Raveling’s vehicle into the rear of a 2002 Buick LeSabre driven by 54-year-old Nancy Welle of Fostoria who was waiting to make a left hand turn. Authorities say a fourth vehicle, a 1993 Ford Tempo driven by 24-year-old Jesse Brustares of Spencer came upon the scene and collided with the rear of the vehicle driven by Harris.
Raveling and Harris were both taken to Spencer Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.
AUthorities say several citations were issues for failure to stop in a safe and assured distance.
The collisions took place shortly before 3:00 p.m.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Fostoria Fire and Rescue, Spencer Fire and Rescue, Spencer Hospital paramedics and the Iowa State Patrol.
