Cause Of Okoboji Apartment Building Fire Ruled Accidental In Nature

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– The cause of a fire that heavily damaged an apartment building in Okoboji has been ruled by the State Fire Marshall as being accidental in nature.

Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth says the fire originated in a utility closet in the apartment most damaged by the fire. The apartment is located on the northeast side of an eight-plex located at 1505 Country Club Drive in Okoboji.

Firefighters were called to the location around 3:00 p.m. Monday and found heavy smoke coming from the apartment.

No human injuries were reported but a cat perished in the fire. Three others were rescued and had to be resuscitated.

Yungbluth says atleast two residents in the building were alerted to the fire by working smoke alarms.
