(Emmetsburg)– A two-vehicle crash Sunday in Palo Alto county sent one person to the hospital.
It took place shortly before 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 18 and County Road N-28.
The Sheriff’s Office says it involved a 1991 Chevrolet truck driven by Robert Leners of Ayrshire and a 2000 Saturn driven by Barry Fischer of Ruthven.
Authorities say Leners was slowing as he was approaching a stop sign, and that Fischer, who had been eastbound on Highway 18, was turning right onto County Road N-28 when he lost control on the ice and snow-covered road. The Fischer vehicle crossed the center line and struck the truck driven by Leners nearly head-on.
A passenger in the vehicle driven by Leners, Michelle Hewitt of Ayrshire, was taken to the Palo Alto County Hospital with undisclosed injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Two thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the truck driven by Leners with five thousand dollars in damage estimated to the car driven by Fischer.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Emmetsburg and Ruthven ambulance services.
