Car Vs Semi Crash Injures Whittemore Man

November 22, 2014

(Ayrshire)– The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office has released information into a collision a week ago involving a car and a semi that sent one person to the hospital.

Authorities say it happened shortly after noon January 23rd about four and-a-half miles east of Ayrshire on 420th Street.

Deputies say Peter Cook of Whittemore was driving a 1996 Kenworth semi westbound when he crested a hill and noticed a snowdrift in his lane. A 2001 Ford driven by Russell Pokrandt of Curlew was approaching in the eastbound lane.

Cook collided with the snowdrift causing him to lose control. The semi tractor came to rest in the north ditch with the trailer blocking the road.

Cook was transported to the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Damage to the semi was estimated at 22-thousand dollars.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office commends Pokrandt. They say thanks to his defensive driving, he managed to avoid colliding with the semi.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Palo Alto county ambulance out of Emmetsburg; the Ayrshire Fire Department and First Responders; Iowa State Patrol and the Palo Alto county road crew.
