Car Vs. Semi Collision Injures One

November 22, 2014

(Sheldon)– A collision Thursday on Highway 60 near Sheldon involving a car and a semi sent one person to the hospital.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office says Donald Caauwe of Sheldon was driving a 2006 Dodge and had stopped at a stop sign in the median to go north on Highway 60. Deputies say Caauwe didn’t see a northbound semi driven by John Graser of Hancock, Michigan. Caauwe’s vehicle struck the rear trailer tires on the semi as he pulled away from the stop sign.

A passenger in Caauwe’s vehicle, Machael Koenck of Paullina, was taken by the Sheldon ambulance to Sanford Hospital in Sheldon. No other injuries were reported.

Damage to the Dodge driven by Caauwe was estimated at $6,000; damage to the semi trailer was put at roughly $2,000.

Caauwe was cited for failure to yield.

The collision took place shortly before 3:00 p.m. Thursday.
