Car Vs Semi Collision Injures Emmetsburg Man

November 22, 2014

(Pocahontas)– An Emmetsburg man was injured Tuesday when a car he was driving collided with a semi in Pocahontas county.

The Iowa State Patrol says 21-year-old Joseph Springman of Emmetsburg was driving a 2004 Pontiac southbound on Highway 4 when he fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming 2013 Mack tractor-trailer semi driven by 42-year-old Diego Larrea of Johnston, Iowa.

Springman had to be extricated from his vehicle by mechanical means. He was then taken by ambulance to the Pocahontas Community Hospital with incapacitating injuries. No injuries were reported to Larrea.

The vehicle driven by Springman was totaled; damage to the semi was put at roughly $10,000.

The collision took place around 7:15 a.m.
