(Spirit Lake)—A collision late this (Fri.) afternoon at the four-way stop in Spirit Lake, or the Wal-Mart Corner, sent one person to the hospital.
Spirit Lake Police say 35-year-old Ashley Fircton of Guernee, Illinois was driving a 2000 Honda car west bound and was attempting to make a left turn, while 67-year-old Gaylen Derksen of Windom, Minnesota was driving a 2008 Victory motorcycle eastbound. Police say the two collided in the intersection. The impact of the collision forced Derksen off his motorcycle. He was transported by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with facial lacerations and was being transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital. No injuries were reported to Fircton.
$1,000 in damage was estimated to the car driven by Fircton and to the motorcycle Derksen was driving.
Police say no citations will be issued as witnesses reported seeing both drivers stop, then pull out at the same time.
The collision took place shortly after 3:30 p.m.
Spirit Lake police were assisted on the scene by the Okoboji Police Department, the Spirit Lake First Responders and Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance and paramedics.
