(Spirit Lake)– The county fair season is just around the corner.
Officials with the Dickinson County 4-H and FFA Fair are putting out a call for queen candidates for this year’s event.
Contestants must be atleast 16 years of age and not more than 21 years of age on August 11th, 2011 and must never have been married or have had children. A county fair queen must reside in the county she represents or an adjoining county if the majority of her activities are in the county she represents.
The contestant must be an active member of atleast one service organization in her community.
The newly crowned Dickinson County Fair Queen will go on to represent the county in the State Fair Queen competition.
The newly elected Dickinson County Fair Queen will assist at county fair shows, as well as represent the county at the State Fair and various local parades.
Judging will be based on community involvement along with written responses to questions and an interview before a panel of judges. General personality, leadership and beauty are taken into factor.
Each candidate will receive a $500 scholarship to Iowa Lakes Community College and a $100 savings bond. The queen receives travel expenses to the Iowa State Fair, a $500 scholarship and a $200 savings bond. Okoboji GM Toyota also provides a car for the Fair Queen in parades and public appearances.
Contestant information must be returned to the Dickinson County Fair Office by 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 20th. The contestant must be available for the judging contest Sunday, July 24th. The winner will be crowned later that evening during ceremonies at the fair.
